Surviving after a suicide: Stories of Hope and Recovery

But for every heartbreaking reality there is always a ray of hope- a reminder that life can flourish even after darkness. John Kevin Hines, an American mental health advocate, motivational speaker and author. At the age of 19, he attempted suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. He is the one of few who survived this fall. His account includes the extraordinary encounter with a sea lion who kept him afloat until the coast guard came to rescue. This pivotal moment in Hine’s life led him to become a mental health advocate and motivational speaker. Bollywood, in particular has played a dual role in influencing public opinion on mental health and suicide. On one hand, Bollywood has brought conversation about suicide to public sphere, helping to break the stigma and encourage dialogue. Many people would agree that social media has played a significant role in increasing visibility, but it's not the sole reason for rising acceptance. Many of us know that a community like LGBTQ exists through social media. But here’s the uncomfortable truth: while awareness has grown, so has the backlash. Instead of fostering understanding and support, many use these platforms to bully LGBTQ individuals, leaving negative comments and perpetuating hate.
